49ers vs. Chiefs | Super Bowl LIV Game Highlights

Super Bowl LIV
The San Francisco 49ers take on the Kansas City Chiefs during Super Bowl LIV in Miami.
How did the Kansas City Chiefs overcome a deficit to win the Super Bowl?
Super Bowl LIV – one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the American sports calendar – saw the San Francisco 49ers face off against the Kansas City Chiefs, in what proved to be an edge-of-the-seat thriller. With each team boasting a wealth of talent, it was always going to be a matter of who made fewer errors and who seized the big moments.
The 49ers, led by Jimmy Garoppolo, were a formidable force throughout the regular season and into the playoffs, finishing with a 13-3 record. The team predominantly relied on their defence to see them through, but it was their offence that truly shone in the Super Bowl. Garoppolo displayed composure beyond his years, throwing for 219 yards and one touchdown. He was aided by running back Raheem Mostert, who rushed for a remarkable 220 yards and four touchdowns. Tight end George Kittle was also instrumental in the victory, contributing four receptions for 36 yards.
The Chiefs, on the other hand, had a slightly rockier path to the final. After claiming a playoff spot with a 12-4 record, the team found themselves trailing the Houston Texans 24-0 in the divisional round. However, they rallied hard to secure a 51-31 victory and set up a clash with the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship. The Chiefs went on to win the game 35-24, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes throwing for 294 yards and three touchdowns.
It was Mahomes who proved to be the hero of the Super Bowl, too. Despite a shaky start that saw the Chiefs fall behind 20-10 midway through the fourth quarter, Mahomes refused to give up. He rallied his team with a series of stunning plays, ultimately leading them to a 31-20 victory. Mahomes threw for 286 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for one touchdown. His efforts saw him awarded the Super Bowl MVP award, further cementing his status as one of the most talented quarterbacks in the game.
The game had its share of controversy, too. Many commentators criticised the officials for seemingly failing to call a holding penalty against the 49ers during a key play in the fourth quarter. However, both teams displayed an admirable level of sportsmanship throughout, with players from each side congratulating their opponents after the final whistle.
In the end, it was the Chiefs who emerged victorious, securing their second Super Bowl win in franchise history. However, the 49ers can hold their heads high after putting up a valiant fight. The game was a true testament to the strength and skill of both teams, and is sure to be remembered for years to come.
