NBA sharpshooter JJ Redick invites Architectural Digest into his custom-renovated duplex in the DUMBO neighborhood of Brooklyn.

In October 2019, shortly after joining the New Orleans Pelicans, JJ Redick opened the doors to the nearly 3,000-square-foot Brooklyn residence he shares with his wife, Chelsea, and their two sons, Knox and Kai. Located at 51 Jay Street within a converted industrial warehouse, the unit underwent a top-to-bottom transformation under the guidance of interior designer Michael Aiduss to replace generic modern finishes with European-inspired character.

• The renovation significantly altered the floor plan, moving walls to establish a formal entryway and a dedicated sitting room.

Structural Integrity and Design

Redick and Aiduss focused on infusing the raw, industrial warehouse shell with a sense of permanence and historical detail. The renovation replaced original laminated stock flooring with white oak herringbone and installed traditional French moldings and archways to define the previously open-plan layout. The primary suite on the upper level was finished with Venetian plaster walls and a mirrored dressing room, creating a refined atmosphere that contrasts with the building’s original factory aesthetic.

Outdoor Living and Functionality

A primary draw for the couple was the apartment’s outdoor space, which the team re-envisioned to move beyond standard urban offerings. Working with Gunn Landscape Architecture, the Redicks installed a functional terrace that serves as an extension of the living area, complete with a fully outfitted outdoor kitchen and dedicated zones for family lounging. This outdoor integration was a specific requirement for Redick, who sought to maximize the utility of the property’s footprint.

Transitioning to New Orleans

At the time of the home’s reveal, Redick had recently moved to the New Orleans Pelicans following a stint with the Philadelphia 76ers. Having moved through 14 different homes across six cities since his 2006 rookie year, Redick noted that the DUMBO duplex was designed to serve as a rare, permanent-feeling oasis for his family. The project highlights the balance of adapting a raw industrial space into a high-end, functional family environment.

Redick now turns his attention to stabilizing the Pelicans’ offense, as the team prepares to integrate Zion Williamson into the lineup upon his return from a knee injury later this season.
