Rest in peace to Roger Mayweather.

He was a great fighter, trainer and guy, and will be missed by many.

What was Roger Mayweather’s record as a professional boxer?

Roger Mayweather, the former professional boxer known for his formidable defensive skills and quick footwork, passed away on March 17, 2020, at the age of 58. Mayweather, a two-weight world champion, was a true icon in the sport of boxing, and his passing has left a void that will be hard to fill.

Born on April 24, 1961, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Roger Mayweather was just seven when he started boxing, learning the art from his uncle, Floyd Mayweather Sr. He turned pro in 1981 at the age of 20, having won the National Golden Gloves title earlier that year. Despite suffering a loss in his pro debut, Mayweather went on to win his next 17 fights, leading to his first shot at a world title.

In 1983, Mayweather fought against Sammy Serrano for the WBA light welterweight title, and he won convincingly, becoming the champion. He went on to defend his title three times before losing it to Julio Cesar Chavez in 1985. After losing to Chavez, Mayweather moved up to welterweight and continued to have a successful career, winning the WBC welterweight title in 1987 by defeating the legendary Thomas Hearns.

Throughout his career, Roger Mayweather was known for his technical prowess, his ability to slip punches, and his counter-punching skills. Despite not being a huge puncher, he was able to use his speed and precision to out-manoeuvre his opponents in the ring. His defensive skills were so good that he earned the nickname “The Black Mamba,” after the snake that is known for its speed and agility.

Roger Mayweather retired from boxing in 1999, with a record of 59 wins, 13 losses, and 1 draw. After retiring, he became a trainer, working with his nephew, Floyd Mayweather Jr., among others. As a trainer, he guided Floyd Jr. to numerous victories, and he was widely respected as one of the best trainers in the sport.

Roger Mayweather’s legacy in the sport of boxing cannot be overstated. He was a two-weight world champion, an accomplished trainer, and one of the best defensive fighters of his generation. He was inducted into the Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame in 2015, and his contributions to the sport will be remembered for generations to come.

In conclusion, the passing of Roger Mayweather is a loss for the sport of boxing. He was a true legend, a fighter, a trainer, and a mentor to many. His impact on the sport will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on through the fighters he trained and the fans he inspired. Rest in peace, Roger Mayweather – the Black Mamba will be sorely missed.
